Ajay Pipe & Steel Corporation

Our place is 199 Goregaon East, right on 17th Cross in the 2nd Stage. It’s quite close to Zakaria Masjid, so we hear the calls throughout the day. Ajay Pipe & Steel Corporation is mostly just a yard and some storage. It’s a bit of a dusty spot because of all the metal moving around. We have pipes stacked up and steel sheets leaning against the walls. It isn't a quiet place. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or a truck backing in to load up. The 17th Cross can get pretty tight when a big vehicle is trying to turn, so we spend a lot of time helping drivers navigate the corner. The shop floor is concrete and always has some grease or metal shavings on it. We’ve been at 199 for quite a while now. Most of the guys here have been working these machines for years. We aren't really into fancy decorations or making the place look like a showroom. It’s a workplace. We wear heavy boots and old clothes because that’s what the job needs. Being near the Masjid makes it easy to give directions. People just look for the minarets and then they find our gate. It gets hot in the summer under the tin roof, but we have some big fans to keep the air moving. We just keep our heads down and get the orders ready.
