A.D. Amreliwala

If you find yourself on Erskine Road near the Null Bazar Police Station, you will probably see our sign. A.D. Amreliwala is at number 179. It is a very busy part of the city. There is always someone shouting, a horn honking, or a cart being pushed past the door. The shop has been here for years, and it shows. The floors are worn down from people walking on them for decades. We have shelves that go all the way up to the high ceiling, filled with stuff we’ve collected over the years. Finding things sometimes takes a bit of time, but we know where everything is. It’s a bit of a maze in the back. Our name is one that people in this neighborhood recognize. We don't bother with fancy displays or bright lights. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the first customer to walk in. Usually, it’s someone we’ve known for a long time. We sit on small stools and talk about the weather or the local news while we handle the business. The air is thick with the smell of the market outside. Sometimes we close up for a bit in the afternoon when it gets too hot. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't see any reason to change it now after all this time.
