Abbas & Co. is found at 116 Perin Nariman Street, right in the Fort area. This part of Mumbai is always packed with people and old buildings. We’ve been here for a long time, watching the city change around us while we stay in the same spot. Our building is one of those classic ones with high ceilings and thick walls. Inside, the shop is full of the different goods we supply to our customers. It’s not organized like a modern supermarket. It’s more of a traditional setup where we know exactly which stack a certain item is in. The street outside is narrow, so getting deliveries in can be a bit of a headache with the traffic. We have a small crew here, and many of us have grown old together in this business. We don't go in for big advertisements or fancy branding. Most of our business comes from people who have known us for decades. We sit at old wooden desks and use paper ledgers mostly, though we have a computer now too. The atmosphere is generally quiet until the phone starts ringing or a delivery truck arrives. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the weather or the local news while we work. It’s a steady life. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. We just open the doors, do the work, and manage our orders. It’s how it’s always been.
