Reay Road is a place where you get used to the noise of the trains and the heavy trucks passing by. Our place, Aarkay Metal Steel Tube Co, is right in the middle of all that Mumbai grit. We deal with steel tubes and metal pieces all day long. It is a lot of heavy lifting and moving stuff around the warehouse. The air always smells a bit like iron and rust, which is just part of the job here. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. Instead, we have stacks of metal and desks covered in invoices and delivery notes. Most of our day is spent talking to drivers or checking the stock that comes in from the mills. It’s a messy business, and our clothes usually end up with some grease or dirt on them by lunch. We’ve been operating out of Reay Road for a good while, so we know the local transporters and the other shop owners around here. It’s a tight space and sometimes it’s a struggle to fit everything in, but we make it work. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the city; we just want to get the orders right and keep the tubes moving out to the sites where they are needed. It’s plain, honest work that keeps us on our feet from early morning until the sun goes down over the tracks and we lock up the gates.
