We’ve been at Shipping House on Kumtha Street for a while now. Being on the first floor makes it easy for people to drop in. It’s a busy part of town. Most days involve a lot of phone calls about boxes and trucks. Moving house is a headache for most people, so we spend our time trying to organize the chaos. We deal with all sorts of items, from heavy furniture to small boxes that people worry about. The street outside can get a bit crowded with traffic, but that’s just how it is around here. We have a small crew that knows how to wrap things properly so they don't break in the back of a van. Sometimes the days are long, especially when there are multiple families moving on the same morning. We usually start early to beat the heat and the worst of the traffic. It’s not fancy work, but it keeps us busy. People come to the office to sign papers or just to ask how much a move to another part of the city might cost. We’ve seen all kinds of apartments and offices over the years. Some are easy to get into, others have narrow stairs that make you sweat. That’s just the nature of the job. We keep our tools and packing tape ready and just get on with it. It's a lot of physical labor and logistics, but we've gotten used to the rhythm of it by now. We aren't a big corporation, just a local group doing our thing.
