Based in Mumbai at Vasant Oasis in Marol, Andheri East, we are a bit different because we are right in the middle of the city. Our name is Krishakutkarsh Nava Dhyas Awas Farmer Producer Company Limited. It’s a long name, but we just think of ourselves as the link between the farms and the big market here. Being at 206 B No.14, things are always noisy and fast. We spend our time on the phone or meeting people to figure out how to get produce from the rural areas into the hands of folks in the city. It is quite a jump from the quiet fields to the traffic of Andheri, but someone has to do the coordination. We don't have a big corporate office with glass walls, just a regular space where we keep our records and handle the logistics. Sometimes it feels like we are always chasing time because of the traffic and the way things move in Mumbai. We talk to farmers back home and then try to make sense of what the city buyers want. It is a bit of a balancing act every day. We aren't trying to be anything fancy, just a group that knows both the dirt of the farm and the concrete of the city. It gets stressful, but seeing the work come together makes it okay. Most of us have roots in the village anyway, so we know what matters.
