Shree Malvan Kelvani Mandal Sanchalit High School

Dhrangadhra is where we are located. The school building has been here for many years. It's part of the Shree Malvan Kelvani Mandal. Kids walk in every morning from the nearby streets here in Surendra Nagar. You can see the dust kicking up on the road when the wind blows. The classrooms are basic, just simple desks and chairs and old blackboards that we have to wash down. Some of us have been working here for a decade, while others just started this year. We don't have fancy things or new equipment. It's a high school where we spend most of our daylight hours. The bell rings at the start and the end of the day. Lunchtime is when it gets really noisy in the hallways. We share tea in the small staff room during the breaks. The paint is peeling a bit in the back corner of the yard where the rain hits. It's just a normal school life here in Gujarat. Parents come by sometimes to talk about their kids' grades or their behavior. We keep all our records in big old ledgers. Sometimes the ceiling fans make a clicking sound that everyone just ignores after a while. The sun gets very hot in the afternoons, so we try to keep the windows open for a breeze. It's a lot of work, keeping track of so many students. We just focus on the lessons and getting through the syllabus before the final exams come around.
