Stander Steel Co.

Stander Steel Co. is located at No. 107/6, near the Lisari Gate in the Bijli Ghar area. It is a pretty crowded neighborhood with lots of narrow lanes and people moving about. We have a small warehouse where we keep our steel stock. It’s mostly pipes and angles that we sell to local contractors. The building is quite old and has some cracks in the walls, but it stays dry inside. We spend most of our mornings moving heavy piles of steel around to get to the stuff at the bottom. It’s physical work that leaves your hands dirty and your clothes stained. We don't have a fancy office, just a small wooden table where we keep the ledger and a calculator. The area near Bijli Ghar is always noisy with horns honking and people shouting. Sometimes the power goes out for a few hours, which makes it hard to see in the back of the warehouse. We use flashlights then. We have a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting when a customer comes with a cart or a small truck. We aren't a big corporation or anything like that. We are just a local steel yard trying to keep the business going year after year. Most of our customers are people we've known for a long time. We just talk, drink tea, and load up the steel.
