Down here on the By-Pass Road in Partapur, things stay busy because of the traffic, but inside Rajkamal Handlooms Factory, it’s a different kind of noise. You hear the constant rhythm of the looms going back and forth. It’s a sound you get used to after a few days, but visitors always notice it right away. We’ve been set up here for a good while, and most of the folks working the floor have been with us through plenty of seasons. Handloom work isn't fast, and it shouldn't be. You have to watch the threads and make sure the patterns are lining up right, or else you just end up wasting a lot of good material. The office is small and usually has stacks of fabric samples piled up on the chairs. We try to keep it organized, but when a big shipment is going out, things get a bit messy for a day or two. Partapur is a decent place to work, even if the road gets blocked up with trucks sometimes. We usually have the big doors open to let some air in while the guys are working. It’s not a glamorous setup, but it’s where we make our living. People stop by sometimes just to see how the weaving looks in person. We don’t mind. It’s just us doing what we’ve always done with the looms and the yarn. There is always something to fix or a new color to try out.
