Hotel Sri Durga

Our place is tucked away in the Chandu Bangera Building on Puttu Prabhu Lane, right near the Flower Market in Mangalore. If you know Car Street, you know it’s one of the busiest and most colorful parts of the city. The smell of the flowers from the market nearby is really something in the mornings. We’ve been operating Hotel Sri Durga here for a while, and it’s definitely a place for people who want to be right in the middle of the action. The lanes around New Field Street are quite narrow, so it can be a bit of a squeeze sometimes, but that’s just the charm of old Mangalore. We don't have a giant sign or a revolving door. It’s a modest setup where we focus on the basics. The building has a lot of history, and you can see it in the walls and the way the stairs are built. It gets quite busy during festival times because of the temple nearby, and the whole street fills up with people. We mostly see travelers who are used to the local way of life and don't need a lot of fuss. It can get a bit loud with the market noises and the temple bells, but most of our guests seem to like that energy. We spend our days making sure the rooms are swept and the linens are changed. It’s hard work, especially when the Mangalore rain starts coming down, but we stay open regardless.
