We spend most of our time here at the Snow Peak spot in Prini village. Manali is always busy but out here in Prini things feel a bit different. You can see the hills from the windows. Cold mornings are common, especially when the snow is actually on the peaks like the name says. Mostly, the work involves just keeping things running. Many of the staff live nearby or down in the Kullu district. Sometimes the power goes out when the wind is too strong up here in Himachal Pradesh. Dealing with that is just part of the day. It isn’t always easy keeping a place like this tidy with all the mud and snow people bring in from outside. Having been here for a while, the routine is set. Even though the address says Kullu, everyone knows this part of the road near the village. A lot of people come through here. It's just a job for most of us, making sure the rooms are okay and the heaters work. Learning to live with the mountain weather takes time. Paperwork exists too, that’s just how it is. There isn't much to say about ourselves other than being here in Prini every day. Most of us grew up around these parts so the shortcuts are well known. Walking down the road, you see the same faces. It's a quiet life when the tourists aren't around. The doors stay open while we wait for the next season to start. It's home for us. Daily tasks take up most of our time.
