Guideway Engineering

We’ve been running things here at No 2/18 in Selliampatti for quite a while now. Most days it’s just us in the shop working on whatever project comes through the door. It gets pretty dusty out here by the post office road, but we keep the machines moving. We started small with just a few basic tools and a lot of manual labor. Now we have more equipment, but the daily routine is basically the same as it was years ago. Someone usually shows up with a metal part that’s broken or needs some custom fixing, and we see what we can do with it. It isn’t fancy work, but it’s what we know how to do. We spend a lot of our time checking measurements and making sure the metal sits exactly right before we start cutting or welding. The morning tea break is usually when we sit around and plan out the day’s tasks. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to wait it out or work on the smaller stuff by hand using flashlights. It is a quiet spot, really. Most people in the Selliampatti area know where we are located. We don’t have a big neon sign or anything, just the shop front and the sound of work coming from inside. Usually, there is a pile of scrap metal out back that we sort through every now and then. We try to keep things organized, but when we get real busy, parts end up scattered on the benches. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing regular jobs for local folks.
