Down in Abdullapur Basti, you’ll find our place, Vinod Bhatla Karyana Store. We are located at 1404, right by the Dhuri Line in Ludhiana. It’s a typical karyana shop. We’ve got the big sacks of grains, pulses, and all the loose spices you might need for cooking at home. The shop has been in this spot for years. It’s a busy neighborhood with a lot of narrow lanes. We know almost everyone who lives on this side of the Dhuri Line. Our days usually start early when the milk arrives. We spend a lot of time weighing out items for customers. It’s not one of those modern supermarkets where everything is pre-packaged and cold. Here, you can ask for exactly how much you need. We keep a ledger for some of our long-time neighbors. The shop is full of the smell of spices and tea leaves. It’s a bit cramped inside, especially when we have a lot of stock coming in. We just pile the bags up and work around them. There’s no fancy decor here, just wooden shelves and old glass jars. We focus on the basics. If you need some sugar or a kilo of dal, we’ve got it. It’s a simple life running a store like this.
