Brij Karyana Stores

Brij Karyana Stores is tucked away at P A U Ludhiana Khm Block 3286/66. It’s a bit of a specific address, so if you’re not from around the university area, you might miss it. We are a small grocery shop, what most people call a karyana store. We sell the usual things like lentils, spices, and sugar. The shop is quite small, so we have to stack things very high on the shelves. Sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle to reach the stuff at the top for the older customers. I’ve lived in this block for years, so the people coming in are mostly my friends and neighbors. We spend a lot of time talking about what’s happening in the colony or how the prices of onions are going up again. We don’t have a delivery van or anything, so people just carry their bags home. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of feet over the years. We keep a ledger for the people who pay at the end of the month, though I’m trying to be more careful with that these days. It’s a simple life running a shop like this. There’s no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it’s on high. It’s just a local spot for the folks in Khm Block to get what they need for their dinner.
