Mourya Karyana Store

If you go down to Gill Kalali Fatak, you will find Mourya Karyana Store at Shop No 5 and 6 near Bhim Talav. We are right by the railway crossing, so we hear the trains going by all the time. The shop is packed with sacks of rice, pulses, and rows of soaps and shampoos. We try to keep things organized but when it gets busy in the evenings, there are bags everywhere. It is a local grocery store where people from the neighborhood come to get their daily stuff. We know what most people want before they even ask because they have been coming here for years. The floor is concrete and we have old wooden shelves that have seen better days. It is a bit dark inside but we like it that way because it stays a little cooler. We spend a lot of time weighing out sugar or flour for customers. Sometimes the kids from the nearby houses come in for a single piece of candy or a small packet of chips. We don't have a computer for billing, we just use a notebook and a pen like we always have. It works for us. Bhim Talav is a lively area and being near the fatak means there is always someone waiting around while the train passes. We have a black dog that hangs around the entrance of shop 5 and 6, hoping for a biscuit. The shelves are made of old wood that we painted blue a long time ago, but the paint is chipping off now.
