R. M. Gulati Hosiery

Down on Street No. 6 in the Mahavir Jain Colony of Sunder Nagar is where you’ll find R. M. Gulati Hosiery. It’s a quiet residential-turned-commercial area where everyone seems to know everyone else’s business. Our building is a typical structure for this part of town, with a narrow entrance that opens up into a larger work area. We focus on hosiery, so there are always piles of yarn and knitted goods sitting around on the tables. The machines we use are old but they still work fine as long as we keep them oiled and clean. Street No. 6 is usually busy with scooters and delivery cycles zigzagging through the lanes. We spend a lot of our time checking the tension on the knitting frames and making sure the sizes are coming out right. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit if you were looking for a fancy showroom. It’s more of a workshop where the floor is usually covered in bits of thread and lint. During the winters, the place gets really busy because that’s when everyone wants hosiery, so we often stay late into the evening. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and take calls. Most of our neighbors in Mahavir Jain Colony are also in the trade, so there’s a lot of talk about yarn prices and weather over the fences. We just do our part and keep the business moving.
