Toshi Knitwears

We are located at 32-33 Sunder Nagar. Toshi Knitwears has been around this area for quite a bit. If you walk past our door, you can usually hear the machines going non-stop. It’s definitely not a quiet place to work. There is yarn everywhere you look, different colors and thicknesses piled up in the corners and on the tables. We do a lot of sweaters and things like that. Sunder Nagar is a decent enough place to work from. Most of our days start pretty early because we have to get the machines set up and checked. If one breaks down, it's a huge headache for the whole day. I spend a lot of my time just checking the rows of stitches to make sure they aren't dropping. It's not glamorous work at all. It’s actually pretty dusty and loud most of the time. But people need clothes, so we just keep making them. Sometimes we have a lot of workers helping out, and other times it's just a few of us. We share some tea in the afternoons when we take a short break. The space is okay, but it gets really cramped when a big shipment of wool comes in. We don't have a showroom or anything fancy like those big brands downtown. We just focus on the knitting part of the business. You learn a lot about how threads work when you do this every single day.
