S.S. Engg Works

S.S. Engg Works is over in Dashmesh Nagar, specifically on Street Number 11 off Gill Road. If you know the area, you know it is crowded and the streets are narrow. Our workshop is at number 1569. It is a noisy place because we have machines running most of the time. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the loud grind of a lathe. We started out small years ago and we are still pretty much the same, just a bit more crowded with tools and scrap metal now. The floor is stained with oil and there’s metal shavings in the corners that never seem to go away no matter how much we sweep. My hands are usually greasy by lunchtime. We do a lot of repair work and making specific parts that people can't find anywhere else. Most of the guys who work here have been with us for a long time. We know each other’s habits and how the machines sound when they’re about to act up. It’s not a fancy setup with air conditioning or soft chairs. We have a couple of wooden benches and a desk covered in old blueprints and oily rags. Gill Road is always jammed with traffic, so getting materials in and out can be a real headache sometimes. But we manage to get the work done eventually. It's just what we do every day.
