Satish Karyana Store

Satish Karyana Store has been sitting here at number 764 in Ludhiana for quite a while. We are right opposite the Islama School, so the street gets very loud and crowded when the classes let out. You can hear the kids shouting and the rickshaws honking all the time. Our shop is just a basic karyana store where we sell lentils, spices, sugar, and other kitchen essentials. We don't have any big flashy lights or anything modern. It is just wooden shelves and old jars filled with different kinds of pulses. Most of our day goes into weighing items and packing them in small bags for the local residents. Sometimes the electricity goes off and we just sit there in the shade until it comes back. It is a simple business. We know what the families around here like to buy, so we make sure to keep those specific brands of tea or cooking oil ready. Sometimes the stock arrives on a big cycle cart and we have to haul the heavy sacks inside ourselves. It’s hard work but it keeps us moving. The floor is just plain cement and we have a small desk where the ledger stays. People come in, ask for what they need, we have a quick chat about the weather, and they go on their way. That is just how life is here across from the school.
