Ram Lal Karyana Store

Our shop is right on Pnb Road in the Salem Tabri area of Ludhiana. Ram Lal Karyana Store is what everyone in the neighborhood calls it. I spend most of my day behind the counter here at number 33. It is a simple place where you can get your daily groceries without any fuss. Ludhiana summers can be really hot and humid, so the shop feels like a bit of a cool shelter for people walking by. I keep all the basic stuff that every kitchen needs. Things like lentils, spices, tea leaves, and heavy bags of atta are always in stock. I don't really have a fancy system for where everything goes, it just kind of found its own place over the years. Some days are very quiet and I just sit and listen to the radio or talk to the guy from the shop next door about the news. Then suddenly, five people will walk in at once and I'm rushing around to weigh out sugar and find the right change. My handwriting in the credit diary isn't the best, but I can read it just fine when it’s time to settle up. We have some old wooden shelves that have been here since we first opened. They are sturdy but definitely look their age. Being in Salem Tabri means we see all kinds of people every day. I try to keep the prices fair because I know everyone. It is just a local karyana store where people get what they need.
