Radhey Departmental Store

Our shop is right in the middle of Chaura Bazar, not far from the old Purani Kotwali. If you’ve ever walked through this market, you know it’s a bit of a maze. Radhey Departmental Store has been sitting here through all the seasons. We stock a bit of everything, from lentils and rice to small household things people realize they forgot at the last minute. The shelves are packed pretty tight. I usually spend the morning checking the stock and seeing what needs to be moved to the front. It gets really crowded in the evenings when everyone is heading home from work. You hear the bells from the temple nearby and the general hum of the market. Sometimes the bags of flour are heavy to move, and my back feels it by the end of the day. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us making sure people get what they need. The floor is old stone and it’s seen a lot of footsteps over the years. We keep a ledger for the regulars who live just down the street. It’s a very local way of doing things. No one is in a huge rush unless it’s raining. Then everyone huddles under the awning. It is just a regular store in an old part of town. We try to keep the staples in stock so nobody has to go too far.
