Punjab Departmental Stores

Living and working in Model Town Shiv Prerna Society means we see the same faces every single morning. Punjab Departmental Stores is tucked away here on Powai Link Road 1, and it’s mostly just a place for the families living in the nearby buildings. We have everything from soap to notebooks for the kids who go to the school down the street. The space is a bit tight because we try to fit so much in. Sometimes you have to turn sideways just to get down the middle aisle without knocking something over. I usually have the radio on in the background, playing whatever old songs are on. My wife helps me with the accounts in the afternoon while I handle the customers at the front counter. We’ve got a lot of plastic buckets and mops hanging from the ceiling because there’s simply no room on the floor anymore. It’s a bit of a maze in here. If you are looking for something specific, you usually have to ask because I’m the only one who knows where the small stuff is hidden behind the bigger boxes. The society kids come in after school for snacks, and they can be quite loud and messy. It gets very busy around dinner time when people realize they forgot to buy onions or a packet of salt. We don't do any advertising at all. People just know we are here at the corner. We deal with the delivery guys who bring the crates of soft drinks every Tuesday morning. It is a lot of lifting and carrying.
