Paramjit Karyana Store

If you walk down Baba Lohra Road in Abdullapur Basti, you will find Paramjit Karyana Store at number 7656. This part of Ludhiana is always full of activity. We have been operating from this small building for a long time, selling all the basic karyana items like grains, oils, and packaged snacks. The shop is filled with the smell of different spices because we keep some of them open in large containers. It is a bit cramped inside with all the boxes stacked up, but we manage. We don't have a computer or anything to track things, just a handwritten diary where we note down what we sold and what we need to buy from the wholesale market. Some days are very slow and we just sit on the wooden stools watching the traffic go by on the road. Other days, everyone seems to come at once and it gets a bit chaotic behind the counter. We try to keep the prices fair so the local people keep coming back. There is no air conditioning here, just a ceiling fan that makes a lot of noise. We handle everything ourselves, from unloading the supplies to sweeping the floor at night. It is a lot of standing and lifting, but it is the work we know. We just focus on keeping the shop running and serving the people in the basti.
