Pappu General Store

Down in Kitchlu Nagar 35, you’ll find Pappu General Store. I’ve been running this place since I was a much younger man. It’s a typical neighborhood shop where we sell a little bit of everything people might need in a hurry. We’ve got snacks, cold drinks in the fridge, light bulbs, and various kinds of washing powder. The shelves are made of thick wood and they’ve bowed a bit over time from the weight of the heavy cans and jars. I know exactly where every single item is kept, even if the place looks like a mess to someone walking in for the first time. The neighborhood has changed a lot over the years, with new houses going up everywhere, but our store stays pretty much the same as it always was. Kids come in with a few coins for colorful candies, and the older folks stop by for their daily newspaper and a bit of gossip. I spend a lot of time sweeping the front step because the street gets very dusty in the summer. We don’t have any fancy computers or scanners for the billing; I just use a simple calculator and a paper notepad. It’s much simpler that way for me. The old fridge hums very loudly in the back, but I don’t even notice the sound anymore. Sometimes my neighbors come by just to borrow a stool and sit outside for a bit to watch the cars go by. It’s a very relaxed place for the locals who live in the area.
