Street Number 16 in New Madhopuri gets really busy during the winter months, mostly because everyone around here is doing hosiery work. Our place at 3547/2 is right in the middle of it all, not too far from Sunder Nagar. If you walk down the lane, you’ll hear the machines running in almost every building. It’s a lot of work, keeping track of all the stock and making sure things aren't just piling up in the corners. I spend a lot of time on the phone or just moving boxes around. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the tea man comes by twice a day, and that’s usually the highlight of the afternoon when things get hectic. It’s a bit dusty, which is just part of the job when you’re dealing with all these fabrics and yarns. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not, just a local hosiery spot trying to keep up with the orders. My desk is usually covered in papers and sample bits, and I never seem to find my pen when I need it. The neighbors are good people, we all mostly look out for each other when the delivery vans get stuck in the narrow street. It’s loud, it’s cramped, but it’s what we do every single day without much complaint. There is always another pile of wool to sort through before we can head home.
