Mohan General Stores

Mohan General Stores is located on Prasanna Nehru Nagar Road here in Ludhiana. I’ve been the one opening the locks every morning for many years now. It’s a neighborhood shop, so I see the same faces almost every day. It’s nice knowing what people want before they even ask for it. Mrs. Sharma always wants the specific brand of tea, and the kids from the school down the road always go for the sour candies. The shop is a bit narrow, so we have to use every inch of wall space for shelves. I’ve got boxes stacked all the way to the ceiling in some places. It gets a bit dusty because of the road construction nearby, so I’m always cleaning the counter. I don't use a computer for the sales; I just have a big ledger and a calculator that’s missing the '8' button, but I know how to work around it. My son says I should modernize, but I don’t see the point when the old way works just fine for me. We have everything from spices to soap. It’s not a supermarket, just a place where you can get what you need for dinner or fix a quick leak with some tape. The neighborhood has grown a lot, and there are more cars on Prasanna Nehru Nagar Road than there used to be. Sometimes it’s hard for the delivery trucks to park. But we manage to keep the shelves full.
