Mital Departmental Store

Mital Departmental Store is located at 2751, 4, in New Janta Nagar. We are right opposite Arora Palace, which is a big landmark around here in Ludhiana. Having the palace across the street means we get a lot of people who are in the area for movies or events. It is a departmental store, so we try to keep a bit of everything—from snacks and drinks to household items like detergents and mops. I’ve spent many years in this shop, and I’ve seen New Janta Nagar change quite a bit as new houses went up. The shelves are metal and they hum a little when the big refrigerators are running to keep the milk cold. I spend a good part of my day checking the inventory and writing lists for the distributors who come by in their small vans. It’s not a fancy supermarket with trolleys; it’s more about personal service where I can tell you where the salt is kept or which biscuit is the freshest. Sometimes the delivery guys come all at once and the shop gets very cramped with boxes everywhere on the floor. We just work through it and get everything put away before the evening rush. The floor gets a bit scuffed from all the crates being dragged around, but that’s just how it is in a working shop. It’s an honest way to earn a living, and we are happy to be a part of this Ludhiana neighborhood.
