Krishna Departmental Stores

Krishna Departmental Stores is located at number 2 on Shivaji Road in the Civil Line area. We have been running this shop for many years now, and it has become a big part of our daily lives. The store is a bit larger than some of the other shops on the street, which allows us to carry a wider variety of things for the house. We have everything from laundry soap and toothbrushes to bags of rice and tinned foods. The layout is a bit messy because we are always trying to squeeze in new products wherever they will fit on the shelves. We have a couple of younger guys who help us with the heavy lifting and keeping the aisles from getting too cluttered. Shivaji Road is a very busy place, and there is always a lot of dust and noise coming in from the traffic outside. We have to wipe down the glass counters several times a day just to keep them looking halfway decent. The floor is tiled, but many of the tiles are cracked or stained from years of people walking on them. We have a small refrigerator for milk and cold drinks, but it is quite old and sometimes makes a loud humming noise that we just ignore. We don't really do any advertising or special sales here. People know we are here and they just come in for what they need. It’s a lot of standing and talking, which gets tiring by the evening. We just try to keep the shop running so people have a place to go.
