Jain Departmental Store

Jain Departmental Store is sitting at 3298 in the Sunder Nagar area of Ludhiana. Even though we call it a departmental store, it is really just a big room with lots of different things squeezed in. We have everything from notebooks for the school kids to big bags of flour for the kitchens nearby. The building at 3298 is an older one, and you can see that in the floor tiles which are a bit worn out now. Ludhiana is a busy city, and Sunder Nagar has its own rhythm. I spend a lot of my time just unpacking boxes and trying to find a place to put new stock. Sometimes the store feels like a maze because there are so many crates on the floor. We know most of the people who live in the surrounding streets. They come in for a chat as much as they do for shopping. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting things and standing all day. I don’t use any computer for the bills, just a pen and paper like I always have. The light in the store isn't great, but we know where everything is kept even in the dark. It’s just a local shop where we try to keep the things people need most. Nothing more than that.
