Guru Kirpa Karyana Store

You can find us at number 1179, street 8, in Dashmesh Nagar. We’ve been in this part of Ludhiana for a while now. Karyana stores like ours are everywhere, but we think our neighbors like coming here because we’ve known them since they were kids. The shop is packed with all the essentials you need to run a kitchen. We have big tins of ghee and stacks of tea boxes reaching up to the ceiling. The floor is just simple stone, and it stays cool even when the sun is beating down on the street outside. We don’t have any fancy displays. We just put the items where they fit. Sometimes we have to move three boxes of biscuits just to find the specific brand of noodles someone wants. It’s a bit of a puzzle every day. We start early, around seven, to catch the people going to work. The street is narrow here, so when the delivery rickshaw comes, everything has to stop for a minute. We don’t use a lot of technology. Just a simple scale and a calculator. It’s honest work and it keeps us connected to the people around us. We see the seasons change from our front door. Right now, it’s mostly about keeping the flies away and making sure the fridge stays cold for the milk. It is a loud, busy, and normal neighborhood life for us.
