If you walk through Jawahar Nagar Camp, you’ll find us at Garg Karyana Store. The address is 41432, though most people just find us by looking for the sacks of lentils and rice near the door. It’s a tight space because we try to fit as much as we can on the shelves. From soap to spices, we carry the basics that every house needs. My family has been running this for years. The mornings are usually for restocking and getting the flour bags stacked up. Jawahar Nagar Camp is a crowded place, so there’s always someone popping in for a last-minute item they forgot for dinner. We know our customers by name, and we know who likes which brand of tea. Sometimes the light flickers a bit, but we’ve got enough candles around if the power goes out. It’s a simple life behind the counter. We spend a lot of time weighing things out and tying up small bags. The floor is concrete and shows the wear of many feet over the years. We don't have a big staff, just us and the occasional help from the kids when they aren't in school. It’s busy, it’s dusty, and it’s loud, but it’s home.
