Down in Guru Nanak Dev Nagar, Gali No. 8, you’ll find our factory. It’s tucked away near the Bajwa Nagar Puli. If you are looking for us, just look for the building where you can hear the knitting machines humming. We have been in this spot for a long time. The street is narrow, so when the yarn deliveries come, it’s a whole process to get the sacks inside. We do hosiery, mostly socks and undergarments. It’s a lot of lint and soft cotton everywhere. The floor is usually covered in little bits of white and grey thread. We have a small office in the corner, but mostly we are out on the floor with the machines. The air is thick with the smell of new fabric. Near the Puli, it can get a bit damp during the rainy season, so we have to keep the stock off the floor. We drink a lot of chai to keep going during the night shifts. Sidharth Hosiery Factory isn't a big corporation; it’s just a family-run kind of place where everyone knows their job. We don’t spend money on fancy advertisements. The neighbors know what we do, and we’ve been dealing with the same vendors for years. It’s just the work we do, and we stay busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just sit in the alley for a bit until it comes back.
