Daler General Store

You’ll find Daler General Store on Dhandra Road in the Dugri area of Ludhiana. It’s a typical local shop where we stock things like flour, pulses, and cleaning supplies. The road outside is usually quite busy with traffic, so it gets a bit noisy during the day. We’ve been running this place for some time now. It’s not a fancy store with glass doors. It’s more of an open-front shop where you can see everything from the street. We spend most of our day talking to people and helping them pick out their groceries. Sometimes we sit on the stools outside when it’s quiet. We know most of the families living around Dugri. They’ve been coming to us for years. We try to keep the stock fresh, but sometimes we run out of things if the truck doesn't show up. That’s just part of the business. We don’t have any big slogans or marketing plans. We just open the shop, put out the new bread, and wait for the morning rush. It’s hard work on the feet, but we like being part of the local community here. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually tell them to pay next time. It’s that kind of place. The counter is made of old wood that’s worn smooth from years of leaning on it while chatting. In the winter, it gets a bit chilly so we wear our heavy sweaters while we work near the door.
