Chauhan Departmental Store

You can find us at B-2137 on Gill Road, right by Gill Chowk. We’re tucked in near Makkar Hardware Store, which is a big landmark around here. The store is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of household things. It’s a neighborhood place, so we know most of the people who come in by their first names. My family has been running this store for years. It’s a lot of work keeping the shelves stocked and making sure nothing goes past its date. The aisles are a bit narrow because we try to fit in as much as we can for our customers. It gets really crowded on weekends when everyone is doing their big shopping. We don't have any of those fancy scanners or self-checkout machines. It’s just us behind the counter with a calculator and a smile. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when three people are asking for different things at once, but we get through it. The building is old and the floor creaks a bit, but it’s home to us. We’re open pretty late most nights because people always realize they forgot milk or sugar at the last minute. It’s not a fancy supermarket, just a local shop where you can get what you need without a lot of walking around. We try to keep things organized but sometimes boxes just pile up in the corners.
