Calcutta Hosiery Emporium

We’ve been sitting here in Jain Enclave on Bahadur Ke Road for quite a few years now. Ludhiana gets really busy, especially during the winter months when everyone wants warm stuff. Our place isn't anything fancy to look at, just a regular shop floor with shelves piled high and boxes sitting in the corners. You can hear the traffic outside all day long. Some of us have been working here since we were much younger. We start the day by cleaning the dust off the counters because it gets everywhere in this part of town. Most of the time, we’re just busy checking what came in from the machines and making sure the counts are right. It’s a lot of manual work, honestly. We don't have big fancy offices or anything like that. Just some desks and a lot of hosiery. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back. It's just how things go around here. People know us as the place near the main road where you can find what you need without a lot of fuss. We drink a lot of tea while we sort through the stock. It’s a simple life. We don’t try to be something we aren't. We just show up, do the work, and go home to our families. The building is getting a bit old but it serves us well enough for what we do every day.
