Bhandari General Store

Working at Bhandari General Store on the Main Road in Ludhiana means dealing with a lot of dust from the passing trucks. I spend a good portion of my morning just wiping down the packets of chips and the bottled drinks. The shop is long and narrow, with shelves stretching all the way to the back where the light is a bit dim. I keep the most popular items like milk and bread right at the front so people can grab them quickly. Ludhiana is a busy town, and the people here do not like to wait around. I have been using the same old calculator for years now, and the buttons are starting to stick. Sometimes I forget to order something and have to scramble to get it the next day. The floor is simple cement, and I have to sweep it out several times because people bring in dirt from the road. It gets quite cold in the winter months, so I keep a small heater near my feet. During the day, I mostly just watch the traffic and wait for the next person to walk in. It is not a complicated business, just buying things and selling them for a little more. I try to stay organized, but sometimes the boxes pile up in the corner when a big delivery arrives. It is just the way things are here on the main road. I close up when the traffic starts to thin out.
