Star Light Hosiery Mills

We are situated on Chandigarh Road, specifically at B-xxxi-372/1 in the Beant Pura area. A good landmark to find us is the Gopi Chand Petrol Pump, which is right opposite our place. Being on the main road means there is always traffic and the sound of horns blowing. Our mill is where we spend all our hours, working with hosiery and knitting. It’s a big space filled with large machines that turn yarn into fabric. The air inside is always a bit fuzzy with lint from the cotton we use. We have big rolls of cloth stacked up against the walls waiting to be moved. It’s a family-style environment here, even if it’s a mill. We know the guys at the petrol pump across the street quite well since we see them every day. The work is repetitive but it’s what keeps the lights on. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend hours fixing them with grease all over our arms. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady. We have a small office near the entrance where the phone rings occasionally, but most of the action happens on the floor. In the winter, it’s actually quite nice because the machines give off a lot of heat. In the summer, we just open all the windows and keep the fans going. It’s a typical Ludhiana workshop life for us and we just keep the machines running through the week.
