Nishanksagar Farmer Producer Company

In Lalitpur, things move at their own pace. We are located at 507 in the Officer Colony, which is on the Jhansi Road. It is a bit of a nicer area with more trees and a little less noise than the main market, but you still get the sound of the trains and the highway. Nishanksagar is a farmer producer company that came out of the needs of this specific region. Lalitpur has its own set of challenges with soil and water, so we spend a lot of time talking about those things. Our office is a simple room where we keep our records and meet with members. It’s not a fancy place with glass walls; it’s more like a room in a house where you can sit and feel comfortable. We drink a lot of tea and look at the Jhansi Road, wondering how many of the trucks passing by are carrying stuff we helped grow. The people who work here are all from the nearby villages originally. We know the heat of the sun and how it feels when the monsoon is late. We are just trying to pull everyone together so we have a bit more say in how our produce is handled. It’s a long road, literally and figuratively, but we are happy to be on it. We don't have much in the way of decoration, just some maps of the district and a few chairs for visitors.
