Over in Talbehat, things move a bit slow sometimes, which is just how it is in this part of Lalitpur. Our group, Ajivika Samriddhi Farmer Producer Company Limited, operates from Prasant Kumar’s place. It’s not a formal setup like you’d see in a big town, just a practical space where we can meet up. We deal with whatever the farmers are growing this season. Sometimes it’s pulses, other times it’s something else depending on the rain and the soil. Lalitpur gets really dry, so we spend a lot of time talking about water and how to manage the fields better. We aren't trying to be anything huge, just a group of neighbors trying to get a better price for what we grow. People walk in and out all day, usually covered in dust from the fields. We have some tea and look at the market rates on our phones to see what’s happening. It’s hard work and the sun is brutal most of the year, but having the company helps us stay organized.
