Out here in Koppakonda at address 2-127, we started Samvrudhi Mirchi Farmer Producer Company Limited because mirchi is what we know. If you walk around this area, you see chili plants everywhere. It’s what pays the bills but it’s also a lot of headache when you have to sell it. We aren't business experts with degrees or anything like that. We are just farmers who realized that if we don't stand together, we get pushed around in the market. Some days the office is just quiet and other days everyone is shouting about the price of bags or transport. It gets dusty and hot but that is just how life is in this part of the country. We try to help each other out with fertilizers and sharing tools when someone’s tractor is down. It isn't a polished operation by any means. We have our fair share of arguments and mistakes but at the end of the day, we are all neighbors. Growing chilies takes a lot out of you and having this company gives us a bit of a safety net. The goal is just to keep our land and maybe make a little bit more than we did last year. It’s a simple goal but it takes a lot of effort from everyone involved in Koppakonda to make it happen day after day. We just take it as it comes and hope for the best.
