Spb Bricks

Our place, Spb Bricks, is out at 5/42 on the Morappur Road in Karimangalam. If you are heading that way, you will see the tall stacks of bricks from a distance. We’ve been making bricks here for quite a few years now, and it’s a lot of hard work. The kiln is the heart of the place and it stays hot almost all year round. We have a small crew of workers who live nearby and they really know their stuff when it comes to the firing process. It is a very hands-on business. We use the local soil, so the color of the bricks depends on the earth we are digging at the time. When the rainy season starts, things get a bit difficult because we need the sun to dry the raw bricks before they go into the kiln. There are days when the yard is a mess of mud and we just have to wait for things to dry out. We don’t have any corporate slogans or a polished sales team. It’s just us and the bricks. People from the surrounding villages come by with their tractors or small trucks to pick up what they need for a new wall or a house. We try to keep a good amount of stock ready so nobody is left waiting. The dust is everywhere, and our clothes are always stained red by the end of the day. It’s a straightforward life, and we are happy to be part of the Karimangalam community.
