About Government U P School – Education in Kottayam
Our school sits right here in Koothattukulam, and if you are from around Ernakulam, you probably know how these government buildings look. It has been standing for a long time, and the paint is peeling a bit in the corners, but it serves its purpose. We have students coming from all the nearby houses, mostly kids whose parents work around here. The morning starts with everyone lining up in the courtyard. It can get a bit muddy when it rains heavily, which happens a lot in Kerala, but the children don't seem to mind it much. We spend a lot of time making sure the midday meals are ready on time because that is a big part of the day for the little ones. The kitchen staff works hard to get the rice and curry done. Our classrooms have the old wooden benches that have seen many years of use. Sometimes the electricity goes off, and we just open the windows wider to let the breeze in. The teachers here have a lot to do, balancing the paperwork and the teaching, but they stay back late most days to finish up. We don't have any big flashy signs outside. It is just the name of the school on the wall. We try to keep the garden at the front somewhat neat, though the goats from the neighborhood sometimes get in. It is a busy, loud, and very normal place for the kids.
