About India Crops Trading Co. – Agriculture & Farming in Kota
Over in the Gumanpura Laadpura market area, things are always moving. We deal with crops here, so there’s always dust in the air and the smell of raw grain everywhere. Our space is more like a warehouse than a shop, with high ceilings and stacks of bags reaching up toward the rafters. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to people about prices and when the next truck is arriving. It’s not a clean job; our clothes are usually covered in some kind of dust by noon. The floor is hard stone and it’s seen better days, but it holds the weight of the trucks and the carts. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just some old calendars and a few hooks for our bags. During the harvest season, we barely have time to eat lunch because it’s just one truck after another. We drink water from a large earthen pot in the corner to stay cool. The market outside is a maze of narrow lanes and shouting vendors, so it’s always a bit of a struggle to get things moved in and out. We don’t use any complicated systems, just basic math and a lot of physical work. It’s the kind of place where your hands get calloused and you know everyone in the neighboring stalls by their first name.
