Kerala Organics

We are located on Gumanpura Road at the Bhamasha Krishi Mandi. The name Kerala Organics makes some people think we are from far away, but we are right here in the middle of the local market. We got into this because we noticed more people asking for stuff grown without all the extra chemicals. It’s a bit of a slower business than the regular grain trade because you have to be more careful with how things are stored. Our shop isn't very large, but we pack a lot into it. We spend a lot of time talking to the growers and making sure they are actually doing what they say they are. It’s a lot of trust involved. We don't have any fancy brochures or a PR person. It’s just us explaining things to whoever walks in. Sometimes the prices are a bit higher and we have to explain why that is to frustrated customers. It’s not always an easy sell. The mandi can be a rough place for this kind of thing, but we’ve carved out our own little corner. We keep the books tidy and make sure the shelves are clean, or at least as clean as they can be in a dusty market. It’s just honest work. We don't promise miracles, just food that’s grown a bit differently. Most days are spent just weighing out portions and chatting with the regulars.
