Ankit Stone

You can find us on Mayla Kherabad Road, which is a stretch of road where you’ll see a lot of stone work happening. Ankit Stone is basically a place where we keep various kinds of rocks and slabs that people need for building things. It’s mostly outdoor work, so we are at the mercy of the weather. When it rains, everything gets muddy and the stones get slippery, which makes the work twice as slow. On sunny days, the heat reflects off the gray and white surfaces of the stone and it gets really bright out there. We use some basic tools to move things, but a lot of it is just manual labor. There is a small shack where we keep our tools and take our meals. The noise from the road isn't too bad, but every now and then a heavy truck rolls by and shakes the ground a bit. We don't spend money on fancy displays or anything like that. The stones are just stacked up in rows so people can see the thickness and the color. It’s honest work that leaves your hands feeling rough at the end of the day. We just try to keep things organized so we know where everything is when someone comes looking for a specific type of stone. It’s a straightforward business, and we just keep doing what we’ve been doing for years on this same road without any big changes.
