Western Merchant (India) is located at 7/1B, Grant Lane, specifically in room number 5 on the ground floor. Grant Lane is one of those old, narrow streets where history feels like it is built into the walls. Our office is a humble space that stays relatively cool because we are on the ground floor, though it can get a bit damp during the monsoon. We have been operating as traders and merchants from this spot for quite a while. The room is mostly filled with wooden desks, old metal filing cabinets, and stacks of paper tied with string. It is the kind of place where you can hear the street noise from the lane—people shouting, carts moving, and the general hum of commerce. We handle a variety of goods, acting as the middleman for different industrial and commercial products. Most of our work involves a lot of writing, some heavy ledger books, and long phone conversations with suppliers. We do not have any big signs or neon lights. People who need us usually know exactly where to find room 5. We take our tea breaks together when the local chai wallah comes around, and that is usually the time we catch up on what is happening in the market. It is a simple, steady way of working that has not changed much over the years, and we are fine with that.
