We are located in the heart of the old city on Kali Krishna Tagore Street. Our office is on the 5th floor of building 39, in suite 515. Being in this part of Kolkata means dealing with a lot of noise and very narrow streets. Vinayak Oil & Fats has been operating from here for quite some time. It’s a busy place where we handle the trade of oils and different fats. The elevator in the building is old and sometimes you’re better off taking the stairs if you’re in a hurry. The office itself is full of ledgers and the sound of calculators. We don't have a modern open-plan layout; it’s more like a traditional setup with wooden desks and big cupboards. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers and the mills. The view from the 5th floor is just rooftops and more buildings. It’s a lot of work keeping track of market prices and shipments. We have our tea delivered from the shop at the corner every afternoon. It’s a small team, and we’ve all worked together for a long time, so we don't need to say much to get things done. The traffic on K.K. Tagore Street is legendary, so we try to get in early before the trucks block everything up. We have a big safe in the corner that’s been there since the company started. The wooden furniture is heavy and dark. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place. We just show up and do the work.
