Venus Engineering Works, Kolkata

You can find our office at 3A Pollack Street on the second floor. We are in Unit-2 of an old building that has a lot of character, even if it’s a bit worn out in some places. Kolkata is full of these kinds of streets that have been the center of trade for decades. Pollack Street is no different; it’s always busy with people moving goods and hand-pulled rickshaws trying to get through the narrow gaps. Being on the second floor gives us a little bit of distance from the street noise, but you can still hear the city life below all day long. The office has high ceilings and big windows, which is nice for the air, but it also means a lot of dust comes in from the outside. We have our engineering equipment and desks spread out in a way that makes sense for the work we do. It’s not a polished environment by any means. There are grease marks on some of the benches and the wooden floors are a bit uneven and creak when you walk. We have a small corner where we keep the stove for making tea, and that’s usually where we gather for a short break in the afternoon. Most of our furniture is made of heavy wood and has been around longer than some of the staff members. We don't really do much in the way of making the place look trendy. It is just a workspace where we focus on our engineering tasks and handle whatever comes our way.
