Vasundhara Texcom is based out of 12, India Exchange Place. If you know that area, you know how busy it gets with all the trading and people rushing around. We've been in the textile business for a long time, mostly dealing with fabrics and wholesale stuff. The office is usually full of samples—scraps of cloth, different weaves, and colors that seemed like a good idea at the time. It’s a lot of back and forth with the mills and the buyers. Sometimes the phones won't stop ringing and other times it's strangely quiet. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here. We just buy and sell textiles and try to make sure the quality is decent enough for what people are paying. The building itself is old, like most things in this part of town. It has that specific smell of old paper and dust that you find in Calcutta offices. We have a small team, and we’ve all been working together for years, so we pretty much know who’s supposed to do what without having to say it. It’s not a glamorous life, spending your days checking invoices and looking at thread counts, but it keeps us busy. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything. It's just a functional space where we get the work done. You have to navigate a lot of traffic just to get to the door, but we're used to it by now.
