It is usually pretty hot here in Kolkata, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the front of the building. We sit here in 700042 near the main road and you can hear the rickshaws going by all day long. Varima Fashions Pvt Ltd isn't some fancy glass office you see in the movies. It is just a place where we get work done. There are piles of cloth everywhere and sometimes the smell of new fabric is so strong it stays in your clothes when you go home. We have a few desks that have seen better days but they work fine for what we need. Lunchtime is the best part of the day because someone always brings something good to share. Most of the time it is just the sound of the fans spinning overhead and people talking about what needs to be shipped out next. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep and the paint is peeling in the corners but nobody really minds that. We know where everything is. When the rain starts during monsoon it gets really loud on the roof and we have to close all the windows fast so the stock doesn't get damp. It is just a normal life here. Some days are busier than others and we stay late to finish things up. We drink a lot of tea while we work.
